About the event
This multidisciplinary initiative invites people to dive deep beneath the waves during “Listen & Sea” Silent Lab experiences. Wearing a pair of headphones, participants embark on a guided marine audio journey through South Africa's highly biodiverse waters. Whilst listening to the grunts, clicks, whistles, and singing of the bay’s inhabitants, participants translate those sounds into creative brushstrokes onto the wall, layering the mural with a visual representation of the ocean’s acoustic vibrancy.
The audio, “participaintory” experience is a sophisticated collaboration between Silent Lab, the African Bioacoustics Community, CareCreative, and MAK1ONE featuring evocative poetry by local artist Toni Giselle Stuart.
